This holiday season, restaurant and store managers planning their rosters can use new technology to stay in touch with their casual employees and it is a scheme that suits Gen Y staff down to the ground.

Managers use a new module in Zuus Workforce to text and email out shift changes, while staff can log in to a website to update their availability, contact details and holidays. Zuus Workforce managing director Rachael Skinner says that Zuus Workforce is perfect for any business with a mainly Gen Y workforce.

In a typical scenario, James is lounging in front of the TV on a Saturday afternoon, thinking about what to watch next. His phone plays its message jangle, and an SMS appears, “Can u fill shift @ Runaway Bay, Sat 16/10 3pm to 9pm? Call Tony 07 3000 0000.”

James calls the store from his mobile to let them know he’s coming in – an unproductive afternoon turns into time when he can earn money!

James can log in to MyROSS from any web browser and update his availability, view the full store roster, request holidays and manage his personal details,” Rachael Skinner explains.

James’s manager can see any changes he’s made by logging into Zuus Workforce from the client program installed on his home or work computer. The store owner can log in from her laptop at her holiday house and view how the store’s labour cost percentage and other KPIs are tracking, and sign off and approve the roster even if she’s away on holidays. Darcy Taylor, store manager of Pizza Capers, Arundel on the Gold Coast, says he’s a “huge fan of Zuus and its simplicity. A+ in my books….my staff love it @ Arundel and we are all in favour of the system.”


Karen Hessell, store manager of Subway Alexandra on New Zealand’s South Island, said, ‘I’m excited about doing my rosters for Christmas, ROSS does some sophisticated calculations but it makes the process so easy.”


Zuus client Jason Sandford-Bell expects to save between $90,000 and $130,000 in wages for the year and said, “A lot of our staff are Gen Y and they are really adept at being online and used to being on the internet, so this isn’t a burden for them, they actually quite enjoy it.”
